The Picturesque through 'Ma'

A Salon of North-West Moments

A transitional period from the East to the West, this Salon exhibits wood relief carvings of Marianne North’s collection and reference to her history and art of botanical study in the Hintze Hall of the Natural History Museum.

The design follows principles that contrast between the 18th century English idea of nature and the  Japanese understanding of nature, which had reached its peak of enlightenment within the same period, the 18th century. This contrast could be argued to also represent the English visuals against Japanese experience within a moment.
